southern school outside of GA

daughter's list of schools include Florida State, Bama, Ole Miss, & Clemson
we live in the Atlanta area and she wants to go out of state, but I want her not to be too far away
any suggestions on any of these schools? she plans to major in psychology with an interest in forensics and criminology

All good schools. Have you looked at the OOS tuition for each?

Given your daughter's interests, it might be worth checking into the University of Central Florida. I know a young lady with similar interests who recently graduated from UCF and apparently had a very good experience. I understand that UCF was recommended to her because of her particular interests and that she elected to attend it over a variety of more well known and big name schools.

What is your budget?

Will your D qualify for merit scholarships? What are her stats?

Bama gives good scholarships for strong stats and has a very good psych dept and criminal justice dept.

Bama is definatley on her list. My nephew goes there and loves it. Not sure yet what assistance she can receive. She needs to take SAT again. She took it while she had mono in her junior year....did well on certain areas but needs to improve on the CR.

^^^

Have her take the ACT and the SAT.

During senior year, Bama won't use test scores past the following dates for merit consideration:

ACT.....Oct (so Sept and Oct tests would be options)

SAT.....Nov (so Oct and Nov tests would be options)

Bama only uses the M+CR on the SAT for merit.

What is her GPA? Bama only uses the GPA from grades 9-11. Weighted grades are fine. All classes included in the GPA.

Have you visited Bama? If not, you should.

do you have a budget for how much you'll spend? if so, that might help fine tune her list.

How did you she do on the PSAT?

If she's interested in Clemson, she might also like University of South Carolina. My oos S was offered good merit aid at USC.
