Get all techie about CC and you lose the whole point of a discussion board. It might be a "search for truth" that misplaces attentions. Or, misreads the purpose.

Many times over, so many have acknowledged that only a slice of the hs pop even knows about CC. So, not representative. In any case, who really wants to talk about Brand X?

Btw, Parke, ever see Northstarmom's post on H? The ensuing arguments and arrows flung back at her are worth a few minutes. Calculate your chances for admission to Harvard? I don't think she's active anymore.

The school did not include academic data in announcing the new Emory College class. The Oxford group, meanwhile, comes in with an average high school GPA of 3.79. The middle half of the class had ACT scores ranging from 26 to 30, out of a possible 36.

So, Emory Oxford has similar student selectivity as Ohio State!!

Although Emory did not suffer the death penalty, GW now has. I am not sure why US NEWS decided to bring the hammer down now instead of a couple of months ago.
i had posted on another cite a few days before the sanctions saying that firing one guy for cooking the books would not stop the practice. Only getting booted from the rankings would have that effect. I am glad that US News and Mr. Morse agreed with me. Not likely he read my post but it is clear that there are enough people who are watching schools and gathering data.
There are a number of schools that are quaking in their boots right now.
my question is should anyone who has an inkling of cooked books be subject to judicial scrutiny if they do not come forward. If someone knows the books are cooked and does no share the info should they be fired?
And for those who were so student about the issue of stats misrepresentation not being a big deal it appears that the big guys at US News have made it clear to all they disagree.

Is there a reason the thread should be closed?
I think raising the issue of schools which have used incomplete stats to boost rankings is worthy of discussion. It certainly generated some strong and interesting discussion from a variety of participants.
Could you help me understand why it will be closed? In looking over the site it seems many discussions have continued on for far longer a time.

^^^Not at all and I totally agree with your comments. I started a thread like this and it was moved to the GWU board. I just assumed that the moderators would close this one out too. Schools that lie/mislead about stats should be exposed.
