Use the SUNY app (unless you now have to use the common app. )
FYI- My son has been in Buffalo and they've had less snow that usual these last three years. Global warming? Also has UB shuttles to off campus sites day and night.
I'd pick UB- state university with great reputation and then either Brockport or Plattsburgh- both a state college. Brockport is near Rochester (you'd use that airport), don't know about Plattsburgh for flying. The U's tend to have higher stats to get in than the SUNY colleges. Apply, get accepted then take a look. (What one person likes, others may hate. My son hated, hated, hated Geneseo but kids love it and is the highest regarded SUNY college- husband loved it when he took son!) Buffalo is not far from Toronto and kids tend to visit. Ski club is also popular as it probably is at all the upstate SUNYs. Id' still promote Buffalo to you as they have so many Health Science programs in case you want to change your major. Very diversified student body (ie your Asian/African American heritage) which I also expect is higher than at the SUNY colleges.

You're awesome. Thank you so much for this info. I think I'm going to apply to Buffalo and Brockport. I know Buffalo for sure, but I'm choosing Brockport instead of Plattsburg because it's closer to Rochester which probably has plenty to do. It has the airport too so I can fly to Newark easily. I'll only attend the SUNY schools if I dont get accepted to Rutgers.

I know this is about SUNY, but would you consider CUNY? The commute into jersey is pretty easy from NYC and of so Hunter has an AMAZING nursing program!

CUNY schools are just like SUNY schools- there are good ones and there are bad ones. For example; hunter and city are better than Lehman.
Hunter is a well regarded schools especially for those who go into the medical field.

I think I'm just going to stick to one of the SUNY schools either Buffalo and/or Brockport.

Both SUNY and CUNY schools provide a great education at an affordable price, the education you get is really dependejnt on what you are willing to put into it that. The nursing program at Hunter is top-notch, I rate it as good as any in NY state.

Just plugged your stats into the Plattsburgh scholarship calculator and you would be eligible for a $4000 scholarship. To answer some other questions, yes, there is an airport in Plattsburgh and there is a lot going on in town. It is a very safe campus and you can walk to Lake Champlain, also, ski and hike in the Adirondacks. Besides Montreal you can take the ferry to Burlington, VT, a fun college town. You are about 1/2 hour form Lake Placid the site of the 1980 Olympics, etc.
You would have internship opportunities right at the hospital in town. We know of 2 girls attending Plattsburgh who are interning there now.
It is probably easier to get to Plattsburgh from NJ than Rochester/Brockport. Plattsburgh is just a straight shot up Interstate 90 and I87 in NY. Also, if you mapquest from Rutgers, NJ to Plattsburgh, Ny it is about 5 hrs.15 min but to Brockport it is 6hrs. 1 minutes. (I used Rutgers as a generic point in NJ).
As far as diversity, there are a lot of kids attending form the NY metro area and all SUNY campuses are actively inclusive.

I know Farmingdale isn't high on your list, but it is about 15 min from where I live. I only know of people who commute to go there. It is in a suburban area near lots of shopping. LIRR to the city, then you can get home from Penn Sta. It is near NYC compared to Buffalo, but it's still got to be a 45 minute train ride. I don't think it's the typical college experience you would get at Buffalo.

Momofbassist- Thank you for the insight on Plattsburgh. You made this a little harder for me because I'm considering to apply there, especially now that I know I could get scholarship money and there is an airport. What are some things to do in town? Do you know much of the nursing program and how good the internships are? Which two should I apply to between Plattsburgh, Buffalo, and Brockport?
Linymom- Thank you for the info but I've narrowed it down to Plattsburgh, Brockport, or Buffalo.

Ohtacos: The nursing program is strong. Plattsburgh started out as a teaching and nursing school so they have a well regarded program. What would you like to do for fun when not in classes? I can ask my son and his friends if it is available on campus or nearby. The school has an active arts scene and there with are 2 malls and many restaurants etc. nearby. Pus, you will have the usual on campus clubs, even a Zombie club to help reduce stress. However, one of son's good friends is a nursing major and she seems to spend most of her time in the library so I don't know how much free time you will have. You would be able to do your internships for nursing right in Plattsburgh at the hospital. Son is a Physics major but his friend, the nursing major, is expecting great job prospects and a good salary when she graduates next December.

Also, one thing that really impresses me is that Plattsburgh has free one on one tutoring available for most subjects. As soon as you encounter an issue, go to the learning center and they will schedule a session. The tutors are trained and work with the profs (in fact they are recommended by the professors). Later on you, too, can become a paid if you excel in your classes. Other son(the bass player) is at another SUNY where free tutoring is available but it is offered in group sessions sometimes up to 14 students so it is not as personalized to your needs.

Momofbassist-Thanks for your help! I decided to just apply to Brockport and *drum roll* Plattsburgh! Hopefully, I will be able to get into both.
I have some questions though. If I don't fill out the personal statement, will it decrease my chance of being admitted? Also, would I be able to use the same essay for the supplement for each SUNY school I applied to?

No disrespect to any of the posters, but I'd use the resources on College Confidential to get information on what to think about, but never to make a decision. You've flip-flopped several times now. The application costs are not that high relative to the college costs.
All of the information here is very biased. People know what they know but don't know what they don't know, myself included.
None of us know YOU.
Why don't you apply to all 3 and try to reuse the essay. Then when you get accepted to schools, you can go visit during spring break and choose intelligently. Something will grab you at one place more than the others. That's the one that's a fit for you.
