I cannot decide what i want from a college... I know my career path, but im unsure on my preferences within a school. I visited baylor this past weekend and absolutely loved the campus itself. The city, Waco, on the other hand, was okay. What i like about UT is that Austin definitely has a lot more to offer. I'm not very crazy about the liberal atmosphere at UT but i do think that it is a bit more renown as a school... Also i have more friends going there. So basically im not sure which i should choose. UT-Austin Chemical engineering or Baylor university biochemistry...?

UT hands down especially if you want to leave Texas after undergrad, Baylor isn't looked at very well outside of the south.

Why is that? i've never heard of people not looking well upon baylor. but then again i live in the south...

I've looked into the two colleges as well, and I liked Baylor way more. But, I wanted a smaller environment than was offered at UT-Austin. UT just seems too big for my taste.

From what I've heard, most employers don't care about what college you went to. They care about what you do at the college. So, people are not going to look down on you if you go to Baylor or go to UT.

UT Austin is a much more academically-respected university, especially for engineering.

The bigger issue is the major you will be doing at each school, which other posters seem to be overlooking in comparing the schools.

Chemical engineering majors have better job and career prospects than biochemistry graduates.

^ I am pretty sure the OP is pre-med and employability based on undergrad major is a secondary concern.

chemical engineering is just a back up plan incase the medical field goes down hill

Remember that most aspiring pre-med freshmen do not get into any medical school in the US. Given how many major in biology/biochemistry, that is a likely source of the flood of biology/biochemistry graduates flooding the job market.

Since medical school is your goal, realize that it is expensive. Is there a significant difference in net cost of the two undergraduate schools for you? Saving money and avoiding debt for undergraduate can help reduce the debt load you will have after years of school and residency.

UT is the higher ranked school so if that is your sole criteria, it is an easy choice. But choosing a school should be about more than that. If you are more comfortable at Baylor in terms of the size and environment of the university, that should be a consideration as well. You will tend to do better when you are happy. That said, price is a consideration as well. So you have to weigh the factors and see where you come out.

okay thank you! because i like baylor's campus a lot more than UT's but yes i must weigh in cost of attendance. I'm hoping i get a significant amount from baylor in financial aid because i only got 60,000 from merit aid which although seems like a lot, really isn't relatively much.
