ED is not necc easier, and remember that a lot of the higher stats are for recruited athletes. Sometimes the creme de la creme are applying ED, cause they are so confident in their performance by early in their senior year--sats, grades, etc. That can make it tougher. But there is some edge to agreeing to a binding contract with ED. But probably not as high a percentage as it looks, if you have not already been recruited by a coach, etc. EA is NON-binding, and is prob. only for the best students, who know where they wanna go and want to get it over with.

Tako a BIG thank you! Where did you get all this data? Please tell me someone else compiled the list.

Also do you think I should cut & paste it onto a word document for handy reference? (My son is going into junior year)

This list is definitely out-of-date. For example, Pitzer now only offers ED. And the acceptance rates listed here are several years old.

Definitely check the schools' websites first.

I have a question. It may sound a little crappy but, anyway: Is the DEADLINE the starting day or the last day to accept application. I'm Asian so based on my English vocab it means the last day :P -->> admission process will close in Jan -->> my friend told me it STARTS in Jan ->> my friend lied to me ?

The deadline is the last day. Deadlines are a bit confusing. For applications, the deadline is the last day. FAFSA cannot be filed until JANUARY 1 of the year you are starting college, so for those of you applying for fall 2009 college, you cannot file FAFSA until January1 of 2009. However, when you apply early, you may have to complete the PROFILE, other FA app or a FAFSA estimate at the time you apply early to get an estimated FA package at time of early acceptance.

I'm sorry but I'm still confusing. Here's an example from CB
University of Pennsylvania
Regular application deadline :01-JAN
Early-decision deadline:01-NOV
So you mean that all applications must be sent to college BEFORE 01-NOV to be considered for early decision and BEFORE 01-JAN to be considered for regular ? If so, when is the beginning ? I prefer the information being listed with time interval From ... To ...

gurung--several liberal arts colleges have very good engineering programs as well, swarthmore being the first example that spring to mind. however, its acceptance rate is only slightly higher than stanford's.

SUNY-ESF and Assumption should both be added to the EA list as well.
