"Does applying Early Decision really limit or preclude getting any financial aid?"
Applying ED usually doesn't affect the amount of aid you are offered compared to RD (the amount is driven by FAFSA/Profile), but it forces you to make a yes or no decision as to whether it's enough to allow you to attend, and you can't compare FA offers. With common app schools, you can turn down the ED FA offer without consequence.
ED should be used only if you have that one dream school you will attend if there is any way possible to make it work financially. Don't apply ED if you want to compare FA offers.
Really nice work, tako. but, one little question. So, if I apply for yale or Stanford, I can have only one school as my EA, right? what's going to happen if I applied more than 1 school as my EA?
