Connecticut College

And, there is no "actual definition of preppy." Is there an actual definition of goth? Of artsy?

Preppy as a descriptive has changed since Lisa Birnbach's classic book "The Preppy Handbook." It now generally means kids who adhere to the "country club look"--polos, Polo brand, Lilly Pulitzer, Lacoste, bright colors, and nothing that would be defined as "fashion forward." I doubt real preps shop at Bloomingdales but stick to J. Crew and boutiques that feature classic clothing. They come from towns such as Winnetka, IL; Greenwich, CT; Wellesley and Weston, MA; Grosse Pointe MI; Gladwynne PA, to name a few. In terms of attitude, it usually means a somewhat "holier-than-thou" outlook that's been passed down from parents; an affluent background; suburban upbringing; and aspirations to remain at the top of the social/economic food chain.

Schools I think of as preppy are: Denison, Bucknell, Dartmouth, Middlebury and Boston College, among others.

Gladwyne isnt any more preppier than the surrounding towns. Average median house price doesnt mean much.

I second the Richmond, to some extent. We're a very friendly mix of preppy and almost everything else...

Well, I'm a non-preppy kid in southern connecticut who's been surrounded by preppiness for most of her life thus far, so I guess I'd say that I'd be a pretty good judge of preppiness (due to my seemingly constant contact with it ).

I'd consider the following among the preppiest of colleges: Washington & Lee University, Bates College, Franklin & Marshall College, University of Richmond, Middlebury College (Club Midd anyone?), Amherst College, Williams College, Connecticut College, Bucknell College, Boston College, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Bryn Mawr College, Vanderbilt University.

I don't know if clothing is enough to make someone preppy. I like to wear polo, brooks brothers and the like, but I don't consider myself preppy. I think its more an attitude.

If you want a better understanding of preppy perhaps look it up on wikipedia and pay attention not only to the clothes but also to the lifestyle choices, prep schools, and then the colleges.

To respond to the topic: Colby, Bowdoin, Bates, Bucknell, Colgate, Hamilton, Holy Cross, Trinity, Middlebury, Lehigh, Lafayette, Dartmouth, Georgetown, UVA, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Duke, and the list continues but all colleges vary in their degree of preppiness.
