This is a nice list. If there are colleges on there that you were slightly thinking about applying to, knowing that the application process is free might make you give the idea of applying a little extra consideration.
Now, what would really be cool would be a cross-tabulation between this list and the "colleges that give good merit aid" list. Free to apply and good merit aid - nice.

Many colleges have ways to get a free application. We got one from Clark for going for a visit, Fordham and Drew with an "apply early" applicaiton in the mail, Wheaton, if we applied online, Marist was the same and Holy Cross if you went to an open house. Every year might be different, but I only paid for Conn college and our state school. There were others, he thought were a reach that also offered free applications in the mail. Just be careful not to delete or throw out what looks like just another pitch from a college before ignoring it. Also many colleges don't advertise the free application if you don't ask....a few I found out about through this site but other students applied to the school and paid.

Did you guys consider that you will still have to pay for sending these schools your ACT/SAT scores and transcripts (unless they're free at your school)?

I think they realize that, (unless they are SAT optional also) but if they wanted to apply, it is still cheaper than paying for both!

Idk if this has been mentioned but some schools waive the fee if you apply online.

When we visited Pitt, it waived the fee if you applied in person during the visit.
I also think this list is very helpful! Thank you! The list has a lot of good schools on it.
The cost of SATs and transcripts plus the Guidance Office requirements makes it obvious that no one is going to apply to a school only because the app was free. I also think it's obvious that no one is going to go to a school JUST because the application was free, or that someone might not apply to their first choice because of an application fee.
At least two of the schools on this list were on my kid's list already. I don't know if she would have picked up on the free fee on-line, so thanks again to the OP.

Oberlin waives the application fee for all international students and for all students attending high school outside of the United States regardless of their nationality.

Widener University in Chester County, PA is also free. If you forward your sat/act scores to your high school as opposed to the college you are applying to ... your counselor can forward them to wherever you apply free of charge.
P.S. Widener has a fabulous criminal justice program & Widener nurses are definetly held in high regards in the Philadelphia area.

Not every school will accept test scores from the HS, even on an official transcript.
