I am just wondering, but by "applying online" (in the case of Wellesley) do they mean common app or their own app? Thanks =]

Uhh what's so important about free application fees that this thread has to be a sticky? I mean you do have to pay to send in your high school transcript or even if you're transferring, all the undergrads you went to? Does paying $35 really hurt?

Many schools are free if you apply online...because there is a limited paper trail. They are also free because the cost is not too great. As long as serious students apply this will always be an option at these schools. When people start applying but don't want to go there, not even as a safety then this system is being abused

Firecube: Yes. For some people money is an object and paying 100+ dollars just for safeties is a big deal.

UMinnesota: Twin Cities is free online.

It's great, but I suggest to make a list for international students- there are as many international students going to apply

I didn't know the fee was waived at Carleton if you applied online! I was 99.9% positive I would apply there online anyway, but that definitely helps.
And, as others have said, don't just apply somewhere because it's free to do so. Apply to these schools as safeties, sure, but make sure that they're safeties that you'd actually attend if need be. Applying to a school you don't like just because you can is stupid.

I got to apply free to a couple of schools because I did something at the school--a summer program at Hollins and a visit at Drew.

Doesn't help if you can't go visit the school, but apparently some do that.
