Rice- but admission to the Shepherd School of Music is extremely competitive and double majoring is very difficult. It isn't easy at IU or Oberlin, either.
Performance is very demanding and fills up a lot of class hours with the theory and other music requirements.

I second Yale and add NYU.

Otherwise besides Columbia/Julliard, you can always try the Manhattan School of Music/Columbia since they're right across the street from each other.

There's often a lot of confusion when discussing Yale. Yale offers a BA degree in music but not in performance. Their grad performance programs are superb, though.

Oberlin, on the other hand, does offer an excellent undergrad double major 5 year program very similar to Northwestern's. They take only 30 or so yearly. Many more at the school pursue just a conservatory style music performance BA.

Michigan-Ann Arbor has a top 3 Music program and a top 10 Mathematics department and offers a great joint program between the schools of LSA and Music.

There are no performance undergrad degrees offered at Yale. The music study is in the academic disciplines of composition, theory and history. Undergrads can rarely take applied lessons with Yale SOM applied faculty, but may find some extremely talented world class musicians amongst the grad students. That being said, there are wonderful opportunities for performance at Yale at many levels.

I'd suggest you spend some time at the music major forum. A list of schools is here Suggestions of Colleges with Music Majors

Use the "search this forum" function while there and you will find numerous threads detailing programs, specific schools and various combined disciplines.

You mention performance. Instrumental or vocal? Level of ability is critical, as schools like Rice, Oberlin, Bard and others are all highly competitive auditioned based programs.

I'd also recommend reading the seminal post here So You Want To Be Music Major - One Family's Experience

Peabody has a wonderful set of overview articles here as well Peabody Institute - Conservatory Admissions: The Articles

Good luck.

In my opinion, Rice and Northwestern are the strongest academic schools that also have outstanding schools of music for performance. (My D1 pursued this route seven years ago). You could also look at USC.

As someone mentioned, Johns Hopkins has a double degree program whereby you could major in math at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and pursue a performance degree at Hopkins' Peabody Conservatory. It is an excellent program but not for the faint of heart. Both degrees require a serious committment and doing both at once is a considerable challenge. Peabody's website has some excellent information talking about the pros and cons of the dual degree program. Performance degrees are really designed for those who aspire to a professional music career---not those who simply like music. For someone who is less than fully committed to a dual degree---Hopkins students who qualify by audition can take performance classes at Peabody without pursuing a degree there.
