UT vs. NYU

I got accepted to both UT and NYU...

Since I live in Texas it would be easy to go back to visit my family should the need arise (I live about three/four hours north of Austin). Also, I was accepted to Dean's Scholar Honors, Plan II Honors (liberal arts), and Liberal Arts Honors. Dean's was the most selective (I think they only took approximately thirty people), while Plan II took aout 150, and over 200 for Liberal Arts Honors. Going through Dean's would mean I would have to major in either natural sciences or mathematics--I would likely pick mathematics. Nevertheless, I may double major since I am an IB student and would get credits knocked off (4 years is required for honors, that's why I am really wanting to do a double major). Finally, UT would only cost somewhere in the $16,000 to $20,000 range, so less than half of NYU (provided I don't receive any scholarships, because financial aid has not given me any information as of yet).

NYU is, however, a good school. It does cost almost $52,000, with most of that consisting of loans (about $40,000 loans, though I did appeal my financial aid decision so I may have the chance of getting more scholarships). For this school, my major would probably be International Relations (different, I know, but still...). I received a letter from NYU encouraging me to apply to the honors major for International Relations, though it is very selective (20-25 people), and starts sophomore year; this would mean I would not be guaranteed a spot and would not know if I was an "honors student."

Which school would be better? New York would likely have more opportunities, though I would be left with well over $160,000 in debts after I'm done, not to mention graduate school to follow...(Note: I want to go to a prestigious graduate school, possibly along the line of Cambridge)...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated)))

Go to UT, definitely. It's a MUCH better deal financially, and UT is considered a really good school (especially the honors program). Plus, you'd have the benefit of football games and a real campus vibe.

Honestly, aside from Stern, NYU really isn't better than any other school (its reputation is inflated because of its location). Unless you're going for business, NYU just isn't worth paying twice as much.

Also, the whole "NY has more opportunities" thing is false. The cities with the best job markets right now actually the cities in the south (think Atlanta, Houston, Austin, even Charleston).
