WPI vs. community college

I got a scholarship from Worcester Polytechnics in MA but I still have to contribute about 20k/year. I am thinking of attending community college although my parents guarantee that they can afford. What do you guys thik where I should go? Is WPI good enough to go? Do I have chance to transfer to big school by attending community college? And between university and community college, which one is better? I am planning to study mechanical engineering. Thank you for all the advice.

If your parents can afford WPI, I think you should go there. If you want to transfer to a 'big school', you can do that from WPI as easily, or probably more easily, than you can from a community college.

Don't discount WPI, it is an excellent engineering school. It is not big in size so it is not "big name", but academically it is excellent and well-regarded. Its relatively small size makes it a valuable (and pretty rare) alternative for engineering students who might not be comfortable at a larger institution. I won't automatically knock the community college alternative, some are fine for the first two years of undergrad., depending on the school and the major you want to pursue. But I can almost guarantee that the academic standards would not equal what you will find at WPI - I would go to WPI, no question.

WPI has an excellent reputation and is a very good school. If your parents are fine with it, I would definitely go there. You will get a very good education.

Go to WPI. I'm not sure of its exact rank, but it has been in the top fifty of private universities. That is a different world from CC. So, if you can afford it, go.
