| My GPA sucks - which colleges should I apply to? Okay, so, my GPA is just below a 3, and I doubt I can pull it to a 3 before I start applying to colleges.
However, everything else about me would probably be stellar - 1800/1900-ish SAT scores (I'm guessing), AP and honors-loaded all four years, tons of involvment, leadership positions, and I've started an amazing essay. I exemplify great citizenship and I do tons of volunteer work.
Which kinds of colleges should I be applying to? |

| Oh, sorry - ha - would make sense.
NO religious-affiliated schools, please.
I also need a school where I can have a pre-med or pre-health major (or a bio major with a pre-med concentration).
I'd also prefer them in the Northeast-ish. |

| That helps. I live in NY so some schools here would be, St. Lawerence University (SLU), Syracuse University, Hofstra University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Postsdam. The SUNY schools are fairly easy to get into, but offer what you want. SLU, Syracuse, and Hofstra all offer what you want but may be reaches. Some other schools in the Northeast that I know of would be John Hopkins University (reach for you), Arcadia University in PA, and Mulhenburg.
Arcadia had some programs called MAP programs. These programs require one year of study abroad. But they do have other majors that do not require study abroad. They do offer the programs you want and from what I know Arcadia has pretty good med. school placements. |

| I have heard similar about Arcadia also. Others to possibly look at are URI, Hartford, Hartwick and Elmira in NY and McDaniel and Washington College in Maryland. |

| I thnk you might do well at Alfred U if you want to stay in NY. Also, you might consider many of the less-well-known midwestern LACs; they love kids from out of the midwest. Some which come to mind: Gannon U in Erie, PA (Catholic but doesn't shove it down your throat, also not strictly in the midwest), Geneva in Beaver Falls, PA (close to midwest and midwestern in feel); Iowa Northern if you want to really get the heck out of Dodge.
Your low GPA may not put you right into premed; be prepared for some raised eyebrows. And those SATs are ok but are not putting you into Harvard Med anytime soon. |

| Size, anything from 2-15 thousand is fine with me.
Parties, I don't party, so I don't mind either way.
I don't want REALLY rural, because that's like, where I live, but I don't want smack dab in the middle of Manhattan with no campus, either.
You guys are great, thanks. |

| In that case, SLU and Arcadia have the right size and location. I live fairly close to SLU and the campus is amazing and it's located in a town that is not rural but is starting to boom.
What specific EC's do you participate in? And approximatly how many hours of community sevice/volunteering? |

| SLU = Sarah Lawrence, right? That could be a good one.
I'd also add maybe Goucher to the list. |

| I volunteer about 4-ish hours/week, mostly at a food cupboard. I'm in drama club, third-year track player, secretary of key club, Latin club, Latin certamen, the Junior Classical League, Gay-Straight alliance, webmaster of deliberation squad (like debate team), and I work a lot with the Kiwanis which is where I get a lot of my volunteer work.
It's just my GPA that's a problem. It's just under a 3 and probably isn't going anywhere. Are these schools that will take other stuff into consideration? |
