what school is right for me?

I'm a junior.
GPA as of this report card...3.6 weighted.
Unweighted 2.9 =[ so low cause of problems at home and 9th grade yr (bad yr).
I go to a vocational school so we don't have many APs.
I took APUSH and AP eng and comp.
I am currently taking AP art history over the summer and next year i'll be taking ap eng lit, chemistry honors, pre cal and ec. honors.

I'm apart of O ambassadors and the 2009 committee which helps the class of 2009 in events.
and I volunteer at the hospital.

I want to go to Va Tech or possibly U of minnesota.

idk if this helps but my teachers will put in a great word for me. =]

sat scores...? eh, not so great but im working on it.
^^any suggestions on how to study?

A few years ago I think that you would have had a great chance at both Va Tech and Minnesota, but as more students apply to college admissions rate drop. I read an article that someone on CC posted a link to and it told the story of a very promising student with very strong teacher support that was denied at George Mason (not to mention Va Tech, UVA, etc.). While you should certainly apply to those schools I think you probably have a better chance at in-state schools. You should look at FSU, USF, UCF and the other FL colleges. I think UF may be a reach. Good luck!

Yeah, your best bet is to just apply to the Florida state schools.

Take a SAT prep course and take the exam several times. Most schools take the best scores from several attempts at the exam.

FSU is a reach with a 2.9, but if you can articulate how you have overcome difficulties (and it seems you're making great progress) you have a shot.

Also consider FSU's CARE program: fsu.edu | Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement
