I was looking at schools such as

Albright
DeSales
Delaware Valley
Kutztown
Widener

for an accounting degree.

I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences or information on the schools because I have not yet been able to visit.

I have heard that Delaware Valley has a nice campus and that there is a nice little town nearby. I have also heard that Widener might not be in the best of areas, but that people seem to like it. Do you definitely want to stay in eastern PA? Would you consider PSU or schools in western PA? Also, I have heard that James Madison in VA and Loyola in Maryland have very good business programs. I believe that JMU is not as expensive as a lot of other colleges either. Best of luck!

I've only know of Widener and Kutztown. Kutztown is a sizable public. I had a PA friend go there as an education major. Tons of majors, tons of fun, probably decent job opportunities. Widener is an expensive private with a good sports management program (meaning they place internships well and offer interdisciplinary classes). It's located in a sketchy area though.

For an accounting degree, you should consider a AACSB-accredited school. Such schools attract better and more recruiters and ensure you do not have to repeat the undergraduate core of most masters degrees in Acct, Tax or any business degree. Of the schools you listed, only Widener is AACSB-accredited. Kutztown is supposedly a candidate for membership, but that should take awhile. Other schools in the same general area are: Susquehanna, West Chester and Bloomsburg. If cost or travel is an issue, the latter two are PA public schools that would likely offer a 2-year transfer program at your local community college.

i can tell you a little bit about some of the colleges and their surroundings -

Albright - is in a suburb of Reading PA, surrounded by a neighborhood of brick houses. My D stayed in a dorm there as part of American music abroad (a HS program). I must say that the dorm was one of the least attractive i have ever seen and so we did not explore it when looking at colleges. I can give you more details if you want. The school advertises on some billboards on the Pa turnpike/interstate and I think that they catuer to evening students as well as fulltime undergrads.

DeSales - I don't know this school -

Delaware Valley - Has an attractive campus on the outskirts of Doylestown. It's one of the few non-landgrant schools that have an agriculture program. i don't know about the accounting program. I think you can get a decent education here.

Kutztown - I have not visited Kutztown but know students who have attended. Some liked it and some didn't. As a state school, it draws mainly in-state students and so can be somewhat of a suitcase school (kids go home on weekends).

Widener - We live in the suburbs of Phila, and while kids go to Kutztown, TempleU, etc hardly anyone goes to Widener. It is located in a less desirable area (economically depressed Chester PA) and I have the impression that it might cater to part-time and evening students.

If you're considering state schools like Kutztown, have you considered Millersville (one of the more selective former teachers colleges) or Temple University? Temple is in a not-so-great area but is very close to downtown philadelphia with mass transit, interesting neighborhoods, etc.
