im not looking for better schools, I realize UMich is about as good as im going to get. my first choice is Michigan State (absolutely fallen in love with the school). I am looking for the best school I a shot of getting into I dont care if its as good as UMich but as good as possible. I think my dislike of UMich stems from my dad who went there and is always telling me how he hated it (also I dont feel I deserve to take the spot of someone who earned it).

Hmm...some people here need to learn the definition of 'reach', and need to look beyond just this person's GPA.

I'm saying those schools seem more like matches than reaches, given your accomplishments and ECs. Though it seems like the people are basing their decisions soley on your GPA and test score. I've seen people with GPA's below 3.0 get into U Chicago, U Penn, and Brown. So just my 2 cents right there; don't be afraid to aim high.

Not specifically, but you can try some private schools where Michigan kids wouldn't typically apply to so that you give yourself an advantage with geographic diversity. Try to consider every factor and not just the numbers.

I'm with john6391, I don't want to go to Univ. of Mich. and I'm a shoo-in. I, however, am in love with DePaul University. And not because my academics dictate (32Comp. ACT I'm retaking, 3.98uw, live in MI, etc.) but because not everyone likes Univ. of Mich despite what the rankings say.

I tend to notice the only people who really obsess over U of M are OOS applicants. Because I, like john, could really care less.

^ couldnt have said it better myself. Live about 30 minutes from the university, and see it all the time, can't see what the big deal is

need to get away or go to Michigan State (which i think is better than UMich in every way)

MSU would not be any kind of reach for you. However, I have a really hard time seeing you at UMich. I know much better candidates who have gotten rejected.

What do you want to do? Albion and Kalamazoo are worth looking into.

I agree with the whole UMich thing too. I live about a half hour away from the AA campus. I was all ready to go there... until I actually visited. It was such a turn-off. MSU!
