Need Realistic Reach schools

I have a 3.25 GPA, and a 23 ACT (retake score pending). I have recommendations from teachers, a University of Michigan-Dearborn professor, and a few people in the Michigan House of Representatives. I have 100 volunteer hours. I am Captain of the Varsity Wrestling Team and on the JV Cross Country Team. I had an internship in the House of Representatives and an internship with the University of Michigan professor. I was on Student Council and received a Leadership Award, a Science Fair Honorable Mention, a Varsity Letter Award, and I am on the Honor Roll. I also have taken several honors courses and a very challenging college prep curriculm. I am also a michigan resident.

I have match and saftey schools but I would like to apply to a few reach schools but still something realistic not like Harvard or anything. So if you could just start naming schools I could look into I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Wow, your stats do not correlate with your achievements but I admire you for being very active. Before we list some schools for you, tell us what field you are interested in. Does the location or size of the school matter to you? Urban or rural?

Northeastern University in Boston could be a possible reach for you... your GPA/stats are low for them, but they like very active people who can succeed in their co-op (paid internship) program.

Also, check out the book Colleges That Change Lives -- many schools in that book are lesser known colleges that would be interested in you.

I second reading Colleges That Change Lives, you will gain insight on questions to ask yourself.

Creighton University in Omaha

DePaul University in Chicago

University of Kentucky in Lexington

Could you tell us your match and safety schools to give us an idea of what sort of school you'd like?

katliamom's advice in post #5 is excellent. "Colleges That Change Lives" is a wonderful book, and definitely one you should be looking at. Good luck!

I recently found out all the schools I am looking at would be low reach/matches

University of Maryland College Park
Michigan State University
University of Minnesota Twin Cities
Indiana University Bloomington

I thought they were pretty good matches but I guess not so these are the kind of schools I am looking at. I would appreciate more match schools cuz I don't really have any now.

if you are asian or white and can pull above 1400, there's 10% chance you will get into UMich w/ gpa=3.2

if you are URM, there's 80% chance you will get into UMich w/ above-1300 SAT with that same GPA. i read those stat from a newspaper couple of days ago that discussed how much Affirmative Action is at work.

yea.... retake that ACT and maybe take SAT.

you are into UMich and you are looking for better schools with your stat?

...cuz as you can see, most of the schools ppl are recommending on this thread are those that are tiers below the one you are already in. ppl are giving you DePaul and Creighton as reaches and they are nowhere near UMich.

you have to realize that it's extremely amazing you got into UMich in the first place with your stat. your GPA is low, and 23 ACT is way below the bottom 25% at 27 ACT.

that's a huge connection.
