Michigan Chances

Hi, I am sure that this type of question is asked a lot so forgive me if I am boring anyone, but I am pretty curious. I want to apply to Michigan and I was wondering if someone could approximate the likelihood that my application would be considered "right in the thick of thigns". I know that nobody can tell me for certain whether I would or would not get into a school, but if someone could approximate for me the level of consideration I would receive from Umich Ann Arbor (low consideration, medium, high) with with the following:

Caucasian, White, Upper Middle Class, Suburban Baltimore, attending very prestigious/difficult inner city catholic college preparatory school.

3.75 GPA
700 Verbal
690 Math
700 Writing
AP US History 4
AP English 4
AP Gov 4
AP microeconomics 4
AP Euro History (senior year)
AP English Lit. and Comp (senior year)

This year (senior year) I will be taking introduction to calculus and Physics as well. There is a chance I might be able to take Honors Calculus, but for conservative estimates assume that I am only taking intro to calculus

Outside of School:
I did about 30 hours of service my junior year and a service trip this summer
I played on the tennis team and helped out with the basketball team (did not play)
Wrote for the school newspaper
National Honors Society
I have worked at a law firm for the last four summers

Please provide me with any suggestions and comments about my chances

Apply as soon as possible. Michigan has a rolling admissions policy. That's your best chance for entry.

Is that just a general tip or do you think that it would be my only chance?

No. A general tip. You certainly have a good chance for acceptance. Just remember you are from Maryland. Much more difficult to gain admission from oos. That's why you'll need to apply as early as possible. Don't procrastinate and wait.

Also, if you haven't gone to the UMich board on CC do so. You will get more advise there. :-)

You've got a reasonably good chance. Your SAT scores are right around the median for entering freshmen at Michigan (1920-2180 middle 50%). Your GPA is in the lower part of their middle 50% range (3.7 to 4.0 unweighted middle 50%) but they'll take the competitiveness of your HS into account, and all those strong AP scores are a plus. Definitely apply early, and if it's your top choice be sure to tell them that, and explain why. My sense is they've wised up to the number of applicants to Ivies and top LACs using them as a "safety," artificially inflating their acceptance rate and damaging their US News ranking. So you hear a lot more stories about these types of candidates being waitlisted or denied. But if you really want to be there, it sounds like a fairly good match to low reach.
