| Well it would depend on what you call "the neighborhood."
Philadelphia? Probably, but northeast Philly is awfully far away....
West Philly? More than it should happen, but not as "regularly" as, say, the ice cream truck
University City? Shootings there, while more common than at nothing-towns like, say, Princeton, are still an extraordinary rarity.
One student was shot in a 2006 7-11 robbery, i think. She is alive and went on to finish her SEAS degree, I believe. Of course, one Penn student getting shot over my 5 years there still means you have extraordinarily small odds.
With a university population of ~30,000 (10k undergrads, 10k grads, 5k faculty, 5k staff), odds of 1 in 150,000 (30,000 over 5 years) are pretty damn good. |
