The title is misleading - I thought you were asking an extremely broad question. I was about to attack you. |

college - this list may be outdated...I am most familiar with Penn.....for instance, Penn does not offer a civil engineering major, & hasn't for some time, and there are a bunch of Penn's majors that are not on the list.

papa-
I think you are right about the demise of Civil Eng at Penn. They had zero grads last year.
Which majors at Penn did I miss? The majors are organized hierarchically by the US Dept of Ed. These are generic names and the name at Penn might be different.

I think the old civil group was folded into whats now called system engineering...which is not civil at all. Same with Env Engineering, which leads me to believe the USDEd list hasn't been updated.
Excluding Penn's Nursing school, below are Penn major/concentration lists for its other three undergrad schools.
Penn SEAS
Bioengineering,
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering,
Computer and Telecommunications Engineering,
Computer Science,
Digital Media Design,
Electrical Engineering,
Materials Science and Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics
Systems Science and Engineering.
Biomedical Science,
Cognitive Science,
Computational Biology
Penn Wharton (concentrations)
Accounting
Actuarial Science
Business and Public Policy
Environmental Policy & Management
Finance
Health Care Management and Policy
Individualized
Insurance and Risk Management
Management
Marketing
Operations and Information Management
Real Estate
Statistics
Transportation
Penn CAS
African Studies
Africana Studies
Ancient History
Anthropology
Architecture
Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
Biochemistry
Biological Basis of Behavior
Biology
Biophysics
Chemistry
Cinema Studies
Classical Studies
Cognitive Science
Communication
Comparative Literature
Criminology
East Asian Languages and Civilizations
East Asian Studies
Economics
English
Environmental Studies
Fine Arts
French Studies
Gender, Culture and Society
Geology
Germanic Languages and Literatures
Health and Societies
Hispanic Studies
History
History of Art
History and Sociology of Science
International Relations
Italian Studies
Jewish Studies
Latin American and Latino Studies
Linguistics
Logic, Information and Computation
Mathematics
Modern Middle East Studies
Music
Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations
Philosophy
Philosophy, Politics, and Economics
Physics and Astronomy
Political Science
Psychology
Religious Studies
Romance Languages
Science, Technology and Society
Slavic Languages and Literature
Sociology
South Asia Studies
Theatre Arts
Urban Studies
Visual Studies
Women's Studies
College-- probably most mismatches are nomenclature things, like Penn's French Studies is probably subsumed under the USDEd Romance Languages heading... Penn has two different majors in French Studies and Romance Languages.
Some other inconsistencies included on Penn list but not USDEd:
1. Science Tech & Society
2. Womens Studies
3. Near Eastern Languages
4. Digital Media Design
5. Computational Biology
I am sure there are more.

Asian & Middle Eastern studies does not exist anymore (was separated into 2 distinct majors--it used to be called "Oriental Studies")
There is also an "International Studies" major (not to be confused with International Relations) that is the default CAS major for Huntsman students.

There is actually a finer level of detail under the categories in post #1. US Dept of Ed has a 3-level classification system and post #1 lists at level #2. The list of majors would be very long at the finest level of detail.
Women's Studies, for example, actually falls under "Area Studies".
A major might have been excluded above in pst #1 if it had no graduates last year.
