Columbia University (in NYC) doesn't use the Common App either.

Would there ever be an instance where it's better to NOT to use the Commonapp and instead use the school's app? As in - would the school prefer it?

I was surprised last year when S was applying that Rutgers and Penn St were not apart of Common App. It was a challenge of finding the time to do all the Comm app supplementals and then additional apps. Also these 2 state schools needed to be completed as early as possible.
