Coolbreeze: Political Economy seems as if a very acceptable and satisfying major. It contains one of my favorite majors, poli sci, and one of the ever rising majors, econ.

Sorry, $60,000 was the current base pay for a PhD in DC, working for the government. And I forgot to figure in about $150 per month in transportation (I won't have a car or gas or insurance, thank god).

See I mean thats good money, however, the key word is Ph.D. I wonder how much less they make with a masters.

trojanman10101, I also thought the same about the political economy specialization within international reations, since it still keeps other doors open. I guess I will now just look more into it, a little more relief. Though I still have to look more under different job salaries.

Well, trojanman, that's where we'll have to differ. I can't imagine not getting a PhD, no matter what field I fall in love with.

I never said I don't want a PH.d, however, I am 50/50. If the job pays ALOT better w/ a doctorate then maybe, but I don't know if I can do another 8 YEARS of school.

At least a 100,000 dollars or more, anything under is very risky for me... considering I would like to explore the world, and be able to buy most of what I want.
Oh yeah, if you do go into the social science fields, I think most graduate schools are only 2-3 years...
( while for doctors after 4 years of graduate school, another 4-7 years in internship/ residency)

Oh no, I plan to go for my PhD. I know if I only went for masters salary could be a lot less, and other doors ( such as jobs, internships etc...) could be closed.

What do you think are the possibilities of architecture major from top architecture schools earning 100000$+? I really love the profession but the avg salaries seem to be reaaallly low.

I don't know much about Architecture except for the fact that my friend's dad is an architect and he is making around 100K, and he didn't go to a good college at all. Instead he went to a CC.

I know this thread may be done, but for future reference to anyone else interested in international relations I will make my correction...
A post above I mention how I plan to have my PhD in international relations, though as I've done more reading... usually those who get their PhD have intentions on doing professional future research or teaching. So it may be best to get your masters ( but you still will need to attend a graduate program) if you plan to work than research, or you can either go to law, buisness school etc... There is a lot more information, but reviewing the link given can give a little more help.
A few careers in international relations reviewed: http://jmc.msu.edu/ir/ircareers.pdf
Found the link to be very helpful, and so far I've only scan through it.

So Coolbreeze what do you find so interesting about IR? Do you plan on doing foreign relations or something of that sort?
