Yes, absolutely. I'm not saying that one should treat a janitor bad, but he/she definitely not deserving of admiration or praise.
| I think that's one of the most obnoxious things I've ever read. Are you a parent?

On the question of the janitor and the stockbroker.
If we're going to be referring to them by the labels of their professions, then, yes, i think that the stockbroker 'deserves less respect than an investment banker.' Because then we are only talking about the professions and investment banker is a more respectable job.
If, on the other hand, we refer to the janitor as 'Fred' and the banker as 'Bob,' then they deserve equal respect. Human respect.
It's ok to respect one job more than another. The banker had to work hard to get that title, but it's important to remember that everyone is entitled to equal respect as human beings.

No it isn't and no I am. We're all entitled to our own opinions though, because that's apparently what makes this country so great. |

| ring of fire, I fixed that for you (guess my measly SMU education gave me a pretty good foundation in grammar). Quote: |
No, it isn't, and no, I am.
| Added some commas for you too, but it is still an extremely poorly written sentence. No, I am - what?

Ring_of_Fire, have you ever worked a manual labor job? I know we're getting a tad off-topic, but there is a career aspect to this as well. Besides, I think I see the disconnect but want to make sure.

Well, this certainly explains a lot. Rather sad, actually.

"equal respect as human beings" is the only kind of respect that matters.
Shame on all of you who think one's job determines who gets or deserves more respect.

You know what I was trying to say. No more of the grammar police act please. This is a forum.
People who are more educated are deserving of more respect. Do you agree with this statement or not?

Education is like strength, wealth, or any other ability. How you use it, your choices, are what make it worthy of respect or condemnation. Look at Madoff or Stanford for example, very smart and educated men who ruined innocent people who trusted their promises. Would you really claim they deserve respect just because of their education? I would not.
Could you please answer my question, ring_of_fire? Have you ever held a manual labor position?

I think we need to define terms for this argument.
What is respect?
Is it the kindness and politeness with which you treat a person? Because then absolutely not, you don't treat someone with an education better than someone without.
Is it deference to one's opinions on a topic that someone learns about in a specialized education program? Then sure you give more deference to an educated person.
But before we just go on bickering, tell me how you guys define "respect."

No, I actually have no idea what you meant by "and no I am."

I strongly DISAGREE agree. I do not measure a person by their level of education. I do not respect people based on the # of degrees earned or the "prestige" of school they went to. People have to EARN my respect and what makes a difference to me is the type of PEOPLE they are, not the education they received.
Very honestly, if this is your view of people, I feel quite sorry for you.
