The Columbia Engineering Experience program does not seem to have a webpage, but I recieved an email and mail invitation. I'm not sure if it is an invitation only event.

Has anyone received an invitation from Colby. I called admissions and was told they were being sent the end of August. I wonder if they went out. Can someone please post if they received any info.

Are all of these programs catered toward Seniors; or are any of them worth signing up as a junior?

Keilexandra, your're amazing!

^^^I would recommend signing up for information on college websites as a jr. Many times when you do so, you will be asked about ethnicity/race, so this is one way to get on their radar for later when they're sending out invitations or notices for diversity weekends. Other ways are PSAT, Ventures Scholars, NHRP, Nat Achiev, etc.

Venture Scholars helped my son with some. One, I think it was Wheaton, we heard about and when he inquired, they said he wasn't sent an invitation, so he wasn't invited. It seemed it was for the "posse" program. He didn't end up wanting to go there, but we learned some will accept you without an offical invite and some wont.

Ooh, I never saw this thread. Thanks for it. I'm going to Swat's, but I didn't know about Yale's. I'll try to check that out.

Added new information on Colby's visit program. I didn't know they offered merit scholarships, either (for students of color only, $3000 summer stipend PLUS no work expectation and increased grant aid).

---

This is an up-to-date (as of August 2009) list of FALL diversity overnight programs offering free transportation/room/board. Open to ALANA students (including Asians) unless otherwise noted. I've provided contact information only for confirmed '09 programs.

Sources: Thanks to entomom and Diversity weekend opportunities for the research jumping-off point. I also referenced a PDF file called "multicultural-students" listing '06 programs, found somewhere through Google and saved to my computer.

If you have updated information on the schools marked ?, please let me know. I will try to keep this updated.

I called Yale about theirs and they said the sign up would be up around the end of this month. I think they said the date was October 26th, but I don't remember 100%. And they said that travel was not covered.
