the university of arizona ranks about 200 places higher than ASU. unfortunately, ASU is mostly known for being easy to get into, a party school, and a jock school...though i'm sure it has its share of serious students.

asu is deff a party school. however there are many hard working in state students who just could not afford to go out of state.

I am from California and ASU is destined for all of those in our school who can't go anywhere else. U of A is a little better.

ASU is very well respected in astronomy as is the U of A. ASU has the better known journalism school of the two. U of A has the pharmacy and medical schools though a new medical school is under development in downtown Phoenix which will be a joint program between the two universities. In the next few years ASU is moving their Schools of Nursing, Public Policy and Journalism to downtown Phoenix which is about fifteen minutes from the main campus. ASU is also planning a Polytech campus around ten miles east of the main campus. Like most big state universities, both schools are challenged by the mandate to educate as diverse and broad a population as possible. This doesn't mean that a serious student will not find opportunities at both schools.

Im from nebraska and going to ASU next year, I applied to U of A to. My biggest turn ons to ASU were the business school, the party reputation, and location. I'd rather be near phoenix plus tucson around U of A sucks.

You may want to note the new Biodesign Institute where some of the science students are able to get first class experience in science Internships.

My son is a student at the Honors college and is in the second year of Biochemistry. He interned last summer with the Department of Energy at PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratories) and is currently looking for a research position at the Biodesign Center.

Neither are extrordinarily highly ranked (Arizona is #97 and Arizona State is third tier...presumably the upper part).

However, as stated above, both schools have decent programs; for example, despite Arizona State's lower rank, it is excellent in business and is wonderful for students with learning disabilities.

Which would be a better biology school? or one that'll be recognized if I was applying to med school?

Hmm...I suppose you'd have to check out usnews.com for that (premium edition...which I don't have so I can't check anything for you).
