Can I get into Wake?

I live in North Carolina and I'm a junior in high school. My parents and I are beginning to talk about college, I set my sights on UNCA. But lately my dad's been really pushing me to try to go to Wake Forest. It's a stretch for me, and I really don't think I could get in. My Dad went there and I heard they give preference to alumni children. Is this true?

Weighted GPA: 4.3
APs: US government and Psychology sophmore year. 4s on both exams.
Ethnicity: white-jewish
Extracurriculars: key club, sga, nhs, employed since the beginning of sophmore year, I'm starting a diversity club at my school

I feel like it's a major stretch for me, even though I am only beginning my junior year. IS it possible for me to get in?

Hello Pikes Place: You certainly are on the right track, and let me clarify that SAT scores will not define your chances at Wake, since they are now SAT optional. 4.3 weighted sounds like a great start, keep getting those As and taking the tough classes.Attend one of their programs for Juniors this year, and have dad inquire via alumni office about legacy admissions process. Also, know that NC students have special scholarship opportunties, and can go early action at Wake!

Good luck!

Too little info - But Wake is certainly putting a big push to get NC kids in (special ED/EA ? deadline) and SAT/ACT is optional for admissions (but not for scholarship consideration).

I would not advise anyone to apply to Wake (or any local school) until they have spent time on campus. All the UNC's have different strengths and weaknesses and you should visit the ones that appeal to you, as well as Elon and Wake (and Davidson for the very bright).

If you can afford to attend Wake and your EC's are a real interest for you (and not just for your resume) than I would advise you to make sure you also visit Elon. Looking at your EC's and wgpa I would think that unless your a writer or want to live near "new age" Asheville that you will likely find a better match than UNCA.

-"My parents and I are beginning to talk about college"- Now is the time to stop talking for awhile and go visit some schools that you might be interested in, go ASAP.

I would be concerned about UNC-A's graduation rate, JMO.
