Is it bad to drop a class you don't need?

Hey guys I took java programming class but when I changed my major from biomedical to electrical engineering, my new major doesn't require java so I dropped it to focus more on the other subjects I have trouble it.

Since I don't need java, will it hurt my chances a bit if I drop it?
Thanks.

If you already know a programming language well, then it probably doesn't matter but any degree these days could benefit from knowing how to program.

Thanks for the reply, but I meant that if I get a W from a class I don't need, would it be bad on my record?
