I'm looking for a school strong in psychology, biomed engineering, or neuroscience. I am looking for one that is not only good for academics, but has a good life out of school. I am open to many schools, but I want to go to a school with a decent to large amount of students (not overly large state schools or liberal arts schools).

Schools that I am into include Vanderbilt, Emory, and UCLA.

Does anyone else have other suggestions?

Clemson University has a very good engineering program and is among the top 20 for best quality of life consistently in the Princeton Review (#2 happiest students this year). It's also smaller than your typical state school with an undergrad enrollment of only 14,000.

Hows the socal scene at case western and Clemson ?

Vanderbilt definitely has what I would call the perfect balance (yes I may be biased since I go here). Everybody works hard during the week, has fun friday and saturday, and then generally does homework on sunday. The social scene here is amazing and you can find something to do pretty much any day but sunday, but the school is also very strong academically and all three of the departments you mentioned are very strong at Vandy. Also the size is great because I almost always see people I know walking across campus, but I also always see tons of people I don't know also, and I'm always meeting new people.

I don't think many people choose case Western for the vibrant social life. There are things to do based upon its location in the middle of Cleveland's performing arts area and there is a Greek scene. However it tends to attract a more studious student that is focused on grad school and social life is secondary. That is a generalization and of course there are exceptions.

Clemson, on the other hand, is located in a much more rural area and has a vibrant on campus social scene. There is such a strong sense of school spirit and the students are extremely friendly. Academically they are a notch below Case Western and there Psychology program is more of an after thought.

Purdue has a pretty good biomedical engineering program. They have a great engineering program in general and a great nursing program. Social life is great. Not sure about their Psychology department but they do have a pretty darn big building... lol
