You would need a UC gpa (soph and jr year) of 3.5 or higher I think but if you can reach that by the end your junior year than UC Santa Cruz is built into a hillside with nothing but trees and is about 5 minutes from the beach.

It is breathtaking and though it may be outside your size limit it really does a great job of feeling small because it has a system of small residential colleges within the University itself. Welcome to UC Santa Cruz - Creating knowledge. In a spectacular setting. For over 40 years.

Juniata in Pennsylvannia is very rural, and underrrated, so not as selective. It's also small, and a close-knit community.

I'm very excited to see all of the beautiful colleges!

I can't wait to graduate. but before, here is my college list so far:
[some of them seem REALLY hard for me to get in, but I will put here anyway]

Whitman
Colorado College
Claremont Mckenna College
Berry College
Humboldt State University
Bard College
Colby College
Juniata College
UC Santa Cruz
University of the South

UNC-Ashenville - couldnt find info from collegeboard.. need to check the # of students

-------------------------------------------------------------
I decided that some of the colleges mentioned before by CC users were too big,
so I didnt put them on my list.. sorry
(My preference: 1,100~4,500)

I live in NJ; so I wont be able to visit every colleges in West or South from my list.

however, I want to come out from NJ shell - I never went to other states before- and experience different atmosphere.. especially NATURE! hahaha

Please keep the suggestion going- and yes I will try to raise my GPA.. :sigh:

Warren Wilson College sounds great - right in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, but about 10 minutes from Asheville, which is a really cool small city.

UNC Asheville's size is 3,589 students, I know someone going there so if you have any questions about the school I can refer them to her!

yes greg6or, I looked up Warren Wilson College also but I figured it might be too small for me... well but it seems like nice college on my second thought; I would definitely keep the college on my list. thank you!

UCSC has 15k students... it's still half the size of other UCs, but it's hardly a small school. But it is pretty much THE nature school, haha.

University of British Columbia. Where David Suzuki works and the founders of Greenpeace worked! Surrounded by 2000 acres of old growth forest, on a pennisula surrounded by beaches that front the ocean. 15 mins to UBC sailing club, 45 mins to local skiing, 2 hrs drive to Whistler, home of the 2010 Olympics. And yet in the city of Vancouver (20 mins bus to downtown).

Ranked around 35th in the world in terms of academics.
