My son got his acceptance letter yesterday but does not have the chance (he's away on a school trip) to log in to find out when Accepted Students Day has been planned for this year. I'm trying to rework our schedules around that weekend so if anyone could let me know the date I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also -- to those who have already gone through this process -- what can we expect to be most beneficial in attending?

Congrats to your son. My daughter was undecided in 2007, between UVA and W&M. Accepted student's day From the moment driving onto campus, students were lining the streets with posters, banners, etc, welcoming the families. Everyone, everything seemed personal. She never looked back and is happily into her sophomore year, earning top grades and very active social life.

"Join us for one of six sessions this spring to understand what myWM entails from one end of the experience to the other. On each date, we will showcase the best of William & Mary faculty, students, and experiences. We want new students to take this campus and make it their own. Learn how to make our W&M, your W&M. Space may be limited so please register.

Program Dates (all myWM Can Be yourWM events begin at 1:00 pm at the Sadler Center's Commonwealth Auditorium)

Tentative Program Schedule

11:00 am: yourChow Time -- Eat lunch in a campus dining hall and mingle with current W&M students. Check-in at the Admission Office, and we will direct you next door to one of our campus dining facilities. William & Mary students are very friendly and outgoing. We encourage you to bend the ear of those sitting near you, and we will have Tribe Ambassador volunteers circulating throughout the facility to welcome you and to answer any questions you might have. All visitors must pay for their own meal.
1:00 pm: Welcome to ourWM -- we've seen who you are on paper. Now let us see you in person. The Dean of Admission, campus administrators, and William & Mary students will join together in welcoming you to the College and in helping to introduce you to your fellow future classmates.
1:30 pm: ourOut of Class Time, ourClass Time -- making W&M your own happens in and outside of the classroom. Parents and students are invited to learn not only about what current William & Mary students are learning in the classroom from those who are doing the teaching but also to learn about what William & Mary students create, experience, and endeavor through our student organizations. These academic and student activity fairs will not feature every academic department or every student organization but we will have representatives from major academic and extracurricular subgroups present to answer your questions.
2:15 pm: yourQuestions, ourAnswers -- parents are invited to attend a panel featuring a student, a faculty member, a parent of a W&M student, and a financial aid officer while students are invited to attend a student panel.
3:00 pm: yourCampus Tour -- you may have taken a W&M campus tour before, but not this one! We have designed a special tour just for admitted students which explores the student haunts, freshman residence halls, and the parts of campus you may have yet to discover. With a special ceremonial ending, this is not to be missed.
The Office of Financial Aid will be open for questions from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on each weekday event and from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm on the April 18th event."

My D is also a sophomore, and her experience with Accepted Students Day was similar to momray's. She was choosing among several schools but W&M had never been her first choice until that day; she especially enjoyed the Activities Fair, and she also had done an overnight just before that. Now she can't imagine herself anywhere else (and neither can I!)

We parents benefitted from sessions with administrators...they gave us a lot of confidence in D's choice, and qualmed a few fears...and also smaller sessions with students giving advice from everything from food plan choices to evaluating the dorms.

Wow momray, newyork, and smdur... thank you so very much for your responses!

I had anticipated hearing one date, rather than several choices of dates, for Accepted Students Day. I suppose that would create a more intimate opportunity to pose questions and a better way to learn more about the school. My husband and I have remained totally neutral in our opinion as to which school our son should choose and feel that the school he ultimately chooses should be the one which he feels is the best fit for him, not us. Of course, we are secretly overjoyed that W&M is among one of his possibilities!!! From the past experiences shared here, I can't wait for our son to take part in it.

a couple years ago W&M switched from one day to multiple smaller days. I guess there are advantages and disadvantages to both. I am intrigued about the special tour, haha.
