Yeah I know about what happened in Williamsburg during the Civil War - one of my relatives was a POW when the Yankees held the area and was kept in the church while his wounds healed.

Armenia is awesome - first Christian nation woot! Georgia is cooler, though. I prefer the art.

I'm a recent W&M alum, but thought I would chime in. While I eventually applied to and attended W&M for many reasons (history, reputation, affordability, etc), I first heard about it in the strangest way. One time in middle school, I was sick for a week and watched the Price is Right around lunchtime, back in the days of Bob Barker. After a commercial break, there was this acapella group behind contestant row - Barker asked them to sing something, to which they sang a college's alma mater. It turns out that the alma mater was W&M's and the group was the Gentlemen of the College. Ever since then, W&M stuck in my head and, well, I eventually applied and ended up attending.

I know W & M was mentioned in my 9th grade history class textbook, because I remember a trick question on a test about which was the first college in the colonies to be chartered (W & M), vs. the first to open (Harvard). And that was almost 40 years ago. I have a weird memory for certain details, so I'm one of those New Englanders who actually has always known where W & M is (and even what it is).

The Gentlemen of the College - amazing! My d has several of their CDs, and we listen to them going back and forth to Williamsburg. If any W & M students are reading this and looking for a nice inexpensive holiday gift, one of their CDs would be a hit with the right person, I think.

I don't know why I want to go to W&M. Yeah, I can say it has a great Psych and English department. Yes, the classes are small. The campus is beautiful. Everyone there (including the admissions people) are funny, down-to-earth and friendly. It has the small-town feel. It's ranked the best in the state. The academics and athletics are brilliant. But to me, William & Mary is the one.

Literally, I can see myself there. I can see myself a frazzled freshmen, double majoring and getting involved in the millions of community service options they have there and the student government. I literally get so happy even thinking about it.

A lot of people ask me that, "Why W&M?" but I can't explain in. I fell in love with the school a while ago and when I set foot on campus, I know I belong there. So, I can't explain it. I can give you stats but honestly, a lot of schools have those. It goes beyond that for me.

W&M is also full of opportunities (academic, professional, and personal) and its size allows its students to really take full advantage of said opportunities. W&M is a place that is nurturing and helps students become a better version of themselves which makes it a fantastic place to spend a critical four years.
