What are my chances?

Hi all,

I have already (quite recently) sent in my application to William and Mary for the ED deadline but was just curious to see what you all think my chances are.

I go to the Peddie School in NJ, which is one of the most competitive boarding prep schools in the country. Here, they don't weight GPA and there is serious deflation. So my GPA turns out to be a 3.2. Weighing my AP's and cutting deflation gives me a GPA in the 3.6-3.7 range of 4.0. My ACT is a 30 and my SAT is a 1990.

The focus of my application is Spanish, as I am a Caucasian male who is now completely fluent in the language and highlights of my extracurriculars include president of the Spanish Club, president of the English as a Second Language Program for the Spanish-speaking janitors, and founder of the Spanish Lunch Table. I am also a head editor of the school publication, a photographer for yearbook, founder of a student support group, and a varsity cross-country and varsity baseball athlete.

This past summer I studied Spanish abroad for a month in Spain. I have also worked at a summer program for underprivileged Spanish-speaking children aged 3-5 at the YWCA, helping them with their English and such.

I've taken 4 AP's total at a school where they are ultra-selective in allowing students to take AP's (more than half of the student body does not take even one AP throughout their Peddie career). I took AP Spanish and AP US History as a junior receiving a 5 and a 3 respectively. This year I am taking AP Psychology and AP US Government and the post-AP Spanish seminar class.

My Common Application essay was raved at by my counselor, who is planning on submitting it to a publication pending my acceptance.

What do you think?

lol....my counselor said the same thing about my essay. Something about it being hilarious and heart warming. Anyways, you'll get in, most likely. The fact that you're practically immersed in another language ought to help you.

you are an interesting applicant. if you can successfully come across as more than your numbers, I think you will have a solid chance.
