Accepted/Former Transfers

This thread is to discuss people's plans for school next year.

If you were accepted to Columbia, were you accepted/are you waiting on any other schools? What is your preference? Are you nervous about transferring out of your current institution? What will be the hardest part? What would you be leaving behind?

If you have transferred in already, what is the experience like? Was it an easy decision to make?

I am transferring from Bucknell University this fall and I am a member of the class of 2012. I have been accepted to Columbia, UPenn, Brown, NYU and UChicago. I am leaning towards Columbia, but I am still having a difficult time deciding upon the school. I am 110% sure I am transferring, though, and am not nervous about it (to answer your question). I think it is so exciting to have the opportunity to attend a school that affords me more opportunities and is actually a fit for me. I am a Russian major, and would like to be a Russian/French double major. Does anyone know anything about the language programs at these schools? Any opinions about these universities in general?

I also had a question, does a transfer student's degree differ at all from a normal students'?

I am transferring as a member of the class of 2012 from Middlebury. I only applied to Columbia - it was kind of a decision I made on a whim, and wasn't expecting to get in at all. I was happy at Middlebury by the time I left, but felt a real dissatisfaction with the location, size and lack of "real-learning" opportunities. I'm not nervous at all about transferring - I had a pretty rough freshman year in all respects, so I'm just excited to use what I've learned and get a fresh start.

I am probably going to minor in Russian, mosmalley. The Russian department at Middlebury is probably the best in the country, so I had relatively low expectations for any other school's department. But I visited the Slavic languages department at Columbia recently and it seemed as if they had some really great resources. I picked up a copy of The Birch, which is a really interesting Russian and Eastern European culture journal that is produced completely by Columbia undergrads.
