Using the optional essay to explain some grades :$

Bonne Annee tout le monde!

Hope everyone had a decent holiday.

I used mine to write my GS essay and am proud to say I finally finished! However, I have some discrepancies on my transcript (I had an F in Composition 2, because I often have to stay at home and take care of my sister, who has special needs, and as such was late to submit some papers, as the professor wouldn't accept emails and demanded papers be submitted in person. But I retook it and got a B. Also an F in French 1 which is because the adjunct teacher stopped teaching at my community college and did not post my grades, so it was registered as Incomplete and then just converted into an F at the end of the Fall semester that just passed, after I got an A in French 2!) Could you guys give me some tips on how to explain these in the optional essay as I have no idea how to start.

Alsooo, if someone could read my essay and give me some constructive (read: brutal) criticism, that would be splendid!

Thank you and I wish everyone a very fruitful and constructive end of the world

A poor grade can make or break anyone's GPA. Yet how resilient are you despite your less-than-stellar markings? Adcoms simply want to know who you are; a person who gives up easily and makes excuses versus someone who learns from mistakes in order to be stronger and more persistent. Dont make excuses about your grade. Talk about what you learned from it and what you have been doing to avoid it. I would suggest not making a plain statement, but by using an interesting story related to the incident int order to make your essay memorable. Go to Barnes and Noble and pick up a few books on College essay writing tips since there are plenty of books that run through the strategy of writing about a poor grade in school.

I wish I would have seen this earlier so that I could have given you some help. I am assuming that you already submitted your application & essay? How did it come along?

Good luck!!
