I got a likely email
My third likely! (Dartmouth, Fordham, now Columbia)
I was starting to feel poopy because I thought my Dartmouth likely was only because I did Bound, but I was actually waitlisted from a CE^2 and still got a likely

Basic stats:

Objective:
  • SAT I (breakdown): First: 2060 (CR690, M660, W710) Second: 2230 (CR710, M790, W730)
  • ACT: First: 32 (E29/M30/R33/S36/E10) Second: 34 (E36/M33/R36/S31/E11)
  • SAT II: 720 Math I, 710 Bio M
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.16 (104.218)
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 2/261
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): World History - 3
  • IB (place score in parenthesis): All being taken in May
  • Senior Year Course Load: Band, IB Eng A1 HL, IB Bio SL, IB Span B HL, IB Math SL, IB ToK, IB HoA HL, IB Music SL, IB Mentoring, Economics
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Hispanic Scholar and National Merit Commended (first in my school in A WHILE).

Hispanic, go to a bad innercity school.

Since you go to a bad innercity school and still got decent grades, they must have saw the potential in you

Withdrawing from other schools?

How likely are they to retract, i.e. I don't get in on March 29th? I'm asking because I'm thinking of withdrawing apps from places lower on my list than Columbia (i.e. pretty much all of them). Since I'm in London, and they look at apps regionally here and tons of people are applying from my school, I feel bad about applying for a place I know I will not take.

However, this changes if the LL doesn't really mean an automatic in and they could still reject me on the day.

Thoughts? Thanks!

P.S.
Basic stats:

Objective:
•SAT I (breakdown): First: CR750, M660, W760 Second: CR800, M680, W800)
•SAT II: 750 Lit, 760 French w/ Listening
•Unweighted GPA: In British system so it's different, but my grades are high
•Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn't rank at all
•Senior Year Course Load: A Levels: French, History, History of Art, English Lit
•Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Fairly good debater nationally; won national media prize for school paper I edited.

The stats are unhelpful because I'm in a totally different school system, but I'm assuming what got me in was my supplement, which was by far my best one.

I'd wait. This is pretty much a for sure in if you did well on your midyear, but still. I'd wait for the official acceptance. Just my thoughts

How rare is that student gets a likely letter but doesn't get acceptance?

In all my reading on CC and elsewhere I have yet to hear of a single likely that didn't become official. Not that I've systematically read everything I could, but everyone seems to agree likely = certain. Of course, discovery of plagiarism or something like that would change things, but that would get an official acceptance rescinded also.

I got deferred ED, so not expecting a LL.

I do know two people who've gotten them. Both are asian - one was deferred by Yale and the other was deferred by MIT.

Good luck to all!

@Wolfbrother
As a LL candidate who matriculated into columbia last year, I can safely say that LL is 99.9% acceptance (0.1% reserved for people who fail miserably for their midyear / commit murder/ etc..). I've never seen (or heard) anyone who didn't get accepted after getting a LL email.

I apologize if this was posted earlier in the thread, but does anyone know how many LLs Columbia sends out? I've seen 200-300 estimates for the other Ivies, it just seems oddly disproportionate that so many people received LLs here...
