On the contrary, my friend who got the LL for fu engineering really has no extracurricular activities except for authentic science research, where he spent 1 summer at a lab for his Intel project (didnt get semifinalist) and he didn't even send in his abstract or talk about it, but that's it. And he spent very little time on his essays.... i'm actually surprised he got one
I just got one too! I'm literally screaming and crying my eyes out right now.
Bhutanese, First Generation, Low income
4.47 W/3.9 UW/ 4/257 in my class
2390 SAT(790 Math)
800 all 3 SAT II's
My accomplishments, beyond my academic profile, aren't that great compared to most decision threads out there. Most of my extracurriculars are at a local level, and only one(HOSA) is at the national scale. I had a lot of hardships in my life and I conveyed all of them as passionately as I could in my essays and through my recommenders.
hmmm so it seems that to get a likely letter you need at least a 2300 SAT and 3.8 GPA...well there goes my chances lol!! but in all seriousness, Congratulations to everyone who received one.
^ I'd say they come in waves, since a number of users all received likely letters yesterday, and from posts over the last few years, they seem to be sent out roughly on a week by week basis (in "waves")
Im honestly surprised I got this letter, here are my stats

Strengths: leadership, well-rounded, good essay, strong interview.
Weaknesses: Test scores, only one nationally recognized award
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Apparently other applicants were better and only 77 hispanics accepted anyway
I'm the cross country captain, am the president of a few things, a NMF, went to Boys State, and did summer research. I don't have super spectacular awards, and I'm white, so I'm not sure what my hook was. I'm ecstatic though!
So has everyone who received one thus far been an engineering applicant?
And, thought I'd add my voice to the chorus of those who are surprised... I was always under the impression that most LLs went to recruited athletes (though I guess less so with Columbia's ED), leaving other LLs for the super amazing academic applicants, like Intel winners and such...
I got my LL yesterday! I feel so much more relieved now. Congrats to everyone who got one and for everyone else there is still plenty of time so not to worry! A few stats: Hispanic, 4.00 UW, 34 ACT, multiple presidencies, AP Scholar w/ Distinction, a couple of other things. Just a thought, does anybody know if any of the other ivies have sent out LL or if and when they even do? Thanks. oh and I applied to Columbia College
My D recieved one, she is not an athlete and she applied to Columbia College.
@Michael1293
Yes, other Ivies have sent out LLs. My D also recieved one from Dartmouth and has friends that recieved them from Yale and Princeton. Grats on yours, enjoy the next month or so before it's paperwork time.
