Best undergraduate major to be competitive for Columbia business school?

Ok, so I am thinking of what undergraduate major is better to get in to the school: business administration or communications or double major with comm or Econ.

I am very interested in marketing so which one of these looks best for an MBA at Columbia.

Thanks.

You should look up MBA admissions requirements. Excellence is the main criteria -- not your major area of study. Although I would say if you want to major in Communications, make sure you load up enough business and quantitative classes. Lots on communications majors graduate w/o any clue about business and if you said "game theory" they'd think XBox.

And let me query you about this: why are you focused on Columbia MBA at this point? The road to a selective MBA program is difficult to chart as a HS student. You will need either STELLAR undergraduate performance and/or a STELLAR performance in your career to be considered for top MBA programs.

Yeah I am aware that striving for good grades is really important, but I am kind of worried of admissions just seeing the title "Communications" even if I do take a good amount of business related classes.

And I am going to be starting college in the fall so I was thinking about my long term goals. It is a long time from now, but just started to think about it (

So If I do pursue communications as my major (thinking of double majoring with econ), hopefully I can get great internships in marketing!

Thanks for you insight T26E4!
