SEAS AP Credit and Placement

Do I have to take the placement exams even if i received the necessary AP score?

I want to take Intensive General Chem (1604) and Accelerated Physics (2801). However, it has been over a year since I did Chemistry and I don't remember much.

I have 5s in AP Chem, Calc BC, Physics B and both Physics Cs.

From what I've read, I understand that I have to take the Chemistry placement exam, but I can skip the Physics placement exam because of my AP scores. Is this right?

How tough are the placement exams? Would it be advisable to study for them now?

Thanks

I'm actually wondering about the same thing. But why is the Chemistry placement test required when Calculus and Physics placements aren't?

AP scores sent to college?

Would it be possible to see the AP scores in Columbia website if they have been indicated as the "college to which scores need to be sent" ? If yes, how does one view that and make sure the college has received the AP scores?

Did Anyone Get their Scores Through College Yet - here folks have been able to view the scores in their respective college websites..

Actprep54 and others - do you know for how many courses one normally has to register for, during the first year? Is it for the semester or for the whole year?

^ If you're asking about the AP scores showing up on the Columbia website, my guess would be to check ssol.columbia.edu under "Academic Profile." However, neither I nor anyone on the Class of 2016 FB group can find anything about it, so it's probably not there.

As for classes (assuming you're CC; SEAS students are pretty much preset), you need to register during NSOP for at least 12 credits in a semester, which comes out to at least 4 classes. However, the average is 15-16, 5 classes. Lit Hum is year long, everything else is semesters. You're preregistered for Lit Hum and UWriting/FroSci, and should take 2-3 other classes.

^ Thanks a lot. But where does one see "academic profile" under SSOL? There is no section called "academic profile" under SSOL. Are you or others able to see it?

My bad, I assumed the link was there for everyone. I think I have it since I did a summer program at Columbia 2 years ago. For me it has the name and date of my program, so I assumed for others who haven' done any program, it was blank. I guess not.

Either way though, there are no AP (or SAT) scores to be found so far on SSOL, so all we can do is wait and see.
