About the book/reading list for the Columbia supplement, what's the character/word count? Additionally, what's the best way to format it so that you can squeeze in as many as possible? As in should you list Book Title (Author)? or Author's "Book Title"? Also is it acceptable to only list the author's last name?

I don't know why you would want to squeeze in as many as possible since they're pretty much asking for what you "enjoyed most". Can you say you enjoyed 10 books the MOST? I think it's unnecessary. You only get to write about one book in the essay too.

Unless Columbia only accepts bookworms, which I highly doubt.

I listed it as Book Title (Author Last Name) and listed around 6 or 7. Try to make them portray a message. Among others, I listed multiple political books and The Holy Qur'an, which shows the two most important things to me: religion and politics (PoliSci major). Utilize every section as much as you can to tell a little bit more about yourself.

I included both serious books and Gossip Girl. Just be honest, throw in a few "not serious" books that you really enjoyed. Nobody's going to believe that all you do is read super dense anthologies all day (unless this is elaborated on in your essay)

FWI, my "little one" also included two websites/blogs that she is passionate about; she reads them pretty frequently. As an adult I, at first, questioned this, but since she actually reads them it was an honest accounting. Didn't hurt her in admissions and perhaps added to her "unique" profile as an applicant.
