@lauren44... Is it possible for you to do ED Columbia and EA UChic at the same time?
  • ballislifeballislife Posts: 51Registered User Junior Member
I was wondering the same thing. I'd assume that you are allowed to do that as long as its not a restrictive early action (unlike Harvard, Princeton, Yale)

Hmm but what about Columbia's policy? Is it like, single choice Early Decision?
  • lauren44lauren44 Posts: 61Registered User Junior Member
Yes, it is, because U of C's EA is not single-choice (restrictive). Columbia also doesn't care if you apply early elsewhere as long as it's not binding. The only thing to watch out for is that if I were to be accepted ED to Columbia I'd have to withdraw my U of C application immediately.

But doesn't UChic's early action decisions come out the same time as Columbia's? Do they care if you end up with 2 acceptances, as long as you only go to Columbia?

holy crap- when did it become our time?

I'm definitely applying to columbia, but I might not apply ED
  • neiro6neiro6 Posts: 410Registered User Member
@hobbesette: yes. They come out at similar times. You will have to decline your UChi acceptance if you are accepted to both. This is true for any other school that you apply to EA alongside an ED school. They don't particularly care when you decline the other school but you have to submit an enrollment deposit to Columbia within a month or so.

Sorry for randomly popping in; but I have a quick question that is sort of odd.
Essentially, I want to apply to Columbia. It's my number #1 school, but I balk at the opportunity for ED just for the sake of options (Financially especially). Therefore..
If I were to apply by November 1 under the regular admission decision plan, would I still get a response in December? Or would I be grouped with the rest of regular admission and given a response in March/April?

Any help would be much appreciated! I'm not sure what my chances are regarding Columbia, but I really hope to get in, whether it be regular or ED if I must.
    Thanks!

@pitt13: if you submit a regular decision application you will not get results until March, regardless of when you submit. There is no advantage to submitting early unless you are going for early decision.

I've been considering Columbia ED for probably over a year now, but I'm still just not sure. Limiting my options so severely, when I love most of the other schools I'm applying to... agh. I think I'm going to wait until I visit (hopefully Sept. or Oct.) before making a decision. Meanwhile, I'm definitely applying EA to UChicago, Emerson, and New College of Florida. RD to a bunch of LACs like Pomona, Kenyon, and Barnard.

    I still can't believe it's our turn...
