Query on Common App Personal Statement

Is is bad if I exceed the 500 word limit? One of my essays has 617 words.... Would that affect my admission decision?

My personal statement was a bit under 800, and I still got in. Don't exceed a page, single spaced, one inch margins.

As for the character limits, abide by those.

Do not go over. It can cut off!

^Yes, the short responses with character limits can cut off. The personal essay, however, is on a separate page, and thus, as long as you keep it to the confines of that page, there's no danger of it being cut off.

On that note, the character limits aren't 100% accurate. Use the print preview function to make sure. One of mine cut off at ~1480 characters instead of the full 1500.
