Registering for Class

Does anyone know when incoming freshmen can begin registering for classes? And do we (the incoming freshmen) have the last pick of everyone in choosing classes, or are there slots saved for us in classes other than what we are automatically signed up for, such as LitHum and UW/Frontiers of Science? Thanks for any information.

registration for incoming freshmen happens during orientation

yes, registration is by seniority so dont think you will get any Music Hum or Art Hum class out of the way freshman yr.

So if I want to take PhysEd first semester then I'll probably get stuck with something horrible like cheerleeding or some other class that none of the upperclassmen wanted to register for? Bummer.
Does it get better second semester, or is there a set block of time for seniors to register, then a block for juniors to register, then a set block for sophmores to register, then a set block of time for we freshmen to register?

for PhysEd you'll probably be shut out of the classes like karate and other popular ones that dont have many time slots but you can easily get into basketball or volleyball or something not so special like that.

How difficult is it to get into an introductory chemistry class as a freshmen? And also, how difficult/cut-throat is introductory chemistry?

General Chem is a freshman class so you will get into it. If you are in SEAS you are required to take it first semester freshman year no matter what your intended major is.

Also keep in mind that for many of the big lecture courses and P.E., it is usually very possible to get into a class you are initially locked out of by simply sitting in the first day, talking to the professor, and having him/her sign a paper.

I was able to do that for Calc III and P.E. first semester of freshman year (but not for the wildly popular Principles of Econ, taught by Gulati).

I think someone posted on College Confidential that Columbia dropped Frontiers of Science, but I think the poster may have been mistaken. I think.
