It would be interesting to know how many of these candidates consider Columbia to be their first choice.

I wonder if this list would be cut down by 20-25% if many of these applicants get accepted at Yale, Harvard, MIT, or Wharton.

nogardder 03-29-2007 11:50 PM

How come nobody is posting to this thread?

noori07 03-30-2007 08:58 PM

wat are the chances of getting into columbia university from a cc..and what do u have to do...go above and beyond i know...but how do i do that? leadership positions...grades, ec's? some advice please....

noori07 03-30-2007 09:03 PM

btw..by cc i meant community college...

brittnayy16x 04-17-2007 08:34 PM

I plan on applying in the upcoming year!
I noticed this thread was quite desolate : )

And yes, I anticipate to apply ED
Columbia is my absolute #1 choice, and the only Ivy to which I plan on applying
None of the other Ivies interest me at all..

sarbear87 04-17-2007 10:00 PM

in response to "what do you need to do to get in," there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First of all, the application process is very much a hollistic one. Yes, your transcript is important, as are your SAT scores. But don't neglect the rest of the application either - they want to know what you do outside of the classroom and how you use your free time. They want to know how much you've challenged yourself academically and otherwise. Even the little questions like "which books have you read in the last year that weren't required for school" can be indicative of how hard you push yourself as a student, both in and outside the classroom.

mourad23 07-02-2007 08:44 PM

I'm planning to apply early ! Columbia is my first choice and my dream university ! And like you, brittnayy16x, I'm not interested in the other Ivies.

MLeigh 07-02-2007 10:31 PM

I'm planning to apply early, too... it's quite a reach but I figure there's no harm in trying. And I'm not looking at the other Ivies, either.

swimgcsto07 07-24-2007 11:46 PM

I plan on applying early as well. Its a reach for me too, but its always been my dream.

So Authentic 07-25-2007 04:58 PM

So Am I.......I hope I get in this December. That will make the perfect christmas gift. && Good luck to everyone else

MSHP 08-02-2007 04:14 AM

Well, for the first 2.5 years of my high school career I was infatuated with Columbia; I always thought I'd apply ED.

But, who am I kidding. I definitely don't have the credentials and applying early wouldn't even help. Of course, admissions is a crapshoot, so anything can happen I guess.

So, anyway, the answer to the question is 'most likely, no'. Pity. But good luck to everyone else!

same here but as you said, admissions is a crapshoot sometimes. There's no harm in applying. After all if you don't apply your chances are 0; if you apply at least you have a small chance.

Nathansub 08-02-2007 12:42 PM

I loved my visit to Columbia. I can see myself there and will apply. It's the first time I've felt this way. I started my essay yesterday and now feel the process has begun in earnest.

cory123 08-23-2007 12:30 AM

will be applying ED. Visited today, and also submitted part 1 of my app today

undisclosed 08-23-2007 09:06 AM

Applying as international transfer.
First choice.
I am however applying to one other Ivy (Yale).
I would still pick Columbia if accepted to both.
Current phase: research and prep since my application limit is March.

Chi-town23_33 08-24-2007 09:28 PM

Will be applying to Columbia RD. Probably my second choice behind Penn (Wharton), although the space between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 for me is very small. Really just trying to get into the best school I can that will also give the best financial aid package. Maybe Columbia will be it. Wouldn't be a bad option.

GrenadeJumper 08-25-2007 11:44 PM

i am! possibly ED, torn between it and Dartmouth. such a hard choice. ill prolyl apply here.

AtoChansu 08-27-2007 02:54 PM

yep. columbia's awesome. I'll prolly apply for fu foundation.

foolishboy99 09-11-2007 05:10 PM

so, it seems like a lot of people on this thread are applying early, and it is a stretch for them. My question is, since about 1700 applied last year ED, how many do you guys think really had no chance and thought applying ED would get them in. Also, how many do u guys think were just amzing all around and would have gotten in if they applied RD.
P.S. like everyone else here, i am applying early, but i dont think it is too much of a stretch.

swimgcsto07 09-13-2007 06:18 PM

I dont know. If they are using their early decision, I would hope it was at a school to which at least they had some small chance of getting into. Otherwise, they should use their ED somewhere else.

fennesz 09-16-2007 09:09 PM

ED - i think i'm a pretty solid candidate
(also applying EA to U of Chicago)

eating food 09-22-2007 07:13 PM

I'm torn between Columbia College ED & Yale SCEA (legacy).

hopingforivy 09-24-2007 05:12 PM

Out of everyone who plans on applying Early Decision, I was wondering how many of you have already submitted Part I and Part II of the application online? Does it matter at all whether you submit your application closer to the deadline or way earlier?

Thanks in advance if you have any thoughts...

MLeigh 09-24-2007 07:39 PM

From what I understand, it's recommended to get Part I in as soon as possible (you have a higher chance of getting an interview, I believe), but no preference is given if you submit your application before the deadline. I'm pretty sure that's true at the vast majority of schools -- at least all the ones I've visited/looked into.

TheFroeb 10-04-2007 05:58 PM

Early Decision Columbia College all the way! I submitted my pt.1 in August. I'm going insane doing the essays, but I hope I'll get in!

Oddly, like the rest of the EDers to Columbia I'm also doing EA to UChicago. Is everyone doing that because they were tied on US News or are the applicants to Columbia awesome enough to realize the greatness of Chicago as well? Interesting to ponder...

y7bbb6 10-05-2007 12:00 AM

wow im doing the same thing
ED Columbia
EA Chicago
i'm not getting into either though...

swimgcsto07 10-18-2007 04:49 PM

I sent in part II two days ago online. But I dont think it matters how late you get it in, as long as you are on time.

Dizzymom 10-26-2007 08:18 PM

S just decided on Columbia ED. He's choosing it over Penn, Brown, Dartmouth and Princeton.

QuixoticRick 11-03-2007 03:49 AM

I'm applying to Columbia regular decision.

marshallito 11-28-2007 05:58 PM

Applied!

I already applied ED to columbia.
Was anyone else here part of the SEAS Multicultural Recruitment program where Columbia flew us out to see the school?
I really want to talk to people from that program.
Also, do you think that will help us get in?

salamander 12-31-2007 08:44 PM

I'm applying Regular Decision- I thought long and hard about ED, but comparing aid packages and merit scholarships is very important for me, what with my financial situation. It's a definite reach school for me, but it's certainly not impossible for me to get in.

zoinks 01-15-2008 10:02 AM

I'm also applying RD... good luck to all you other guys :)

Eravial08 01-22-2008 12:06 AM

I applied RD! For Fu SEAS.

aznfishy 03-04-2008 06:19 PM

applied rd to columbia college...which is prbly gonna be rlly low chances since i'm an asian girl...

undisclosed 03-26-2008 09:36 PM

Oh for god's sake. Despite what people keep claiming, admissions is not a race game! URM status can be a factor yes, but you being asian does not keep you out of the ivy.

zdub08 03-26-2008 09:42 PM

I applied RD for CC.

Narcissa 03-26-2008 10:13 PM
