penn seas, columbia seas, cornell engineering

i was admitted into penn seas, columbia seas, cornell engineering, and cmu's scs. i'm planning on majoring in cs but i'm not sure that i'll continue in it. i want the option of studying other things but i'd like a top notch cs education as well. i probably will minor in east asian studies. i know this is a pretty selfish desire, but it would be really great if i could find my perfect college.

i'm sure that you'll all see that i'm leaning towards columbia seas because i'm posting this on columbia but it would be helpful if you could give me an unbiased response. thanks.

can anyone give me a reason to choose columbia seas over cornell engineering, penn seas, and cmu's scs? i really want to go to columbia but people tell me that's a bad idea. thanks again in advance

You will have the most amount of fun at Columbia, since NYC > Phillie > Pittsburgh > Ithaca.

I'm in a similar situation as you. I want to major in electrical engineering, but I want to do a lot of writing and music as well. I got into Columbia w/ scholars program, Cornell w/ some leadership thing, Stanford, Duke, Rice, and Harvey Mudd. And of these, I'm leaning towards Columbia but Rice and Stanford are under consideration.

I figure that how successful someone is isn't going to matter between your or my college choices, since they're all great schools, and I will have the most amount of fun at Columbia.

well, as i said in my post, i AM looking for biased responses. i am pretty set on wanting to go to columbia but i need a good reason to give up cornell engineering, upenn seas, and cmu's scs. people around me are criticizing me that choosing columbia would be a mistake. i want people here, in the columbia forum, to tell me that i'm not making a mistake. i need reassurance. any response is greatly appreciated.

right now im deciding between cornell hotel administration and columbia seas...i heard that cmu's cs is like top in the country? i know these engineering programs are not that strong, with mit and stanford at the top, and i even looked at the graduate rankings 2 which did not favor columbia fu...but i think that with the core we will get an amazing liberal arts education and have an awesome city to explore

at cornell, if you are an engineer you can't minor in something outside of the engineering school. you have to go for the full double major. however, you can still take all the classes required for a minor, but you simply won't have it listed as a minor on your transcript, which is something trivial that employers and grad schools don't care about anyway. I'm not sure how it is at columbia or UPenn but I imagine the experience to be similar. As far as East Asian Studies go, Columbia and Cornell have the top departments in those fields. This won't help you at all, but the CS program at Cornell is one of the tops in the country and employers recruit like crazy here. If you're looking for reasons to go to Columbia, the class sizes for engineering will be smaller and you'll probably get as good of a CS education there also.
