deferred............ ugh. i guess i'll just be waiting until march?
whatever, i just sent out my other apps - and we'll just have to see what happens. it just feels like deferral means - "hey, you're qualified - but we think we might be able to get someone better than you!"
blahh bitterness. i still hope i get in later.
congrats to everyone who's been accepted! that's awesome!

Does anyone know when we receive the decision in paper; and, for those accepted, is it accompanied by some sort of cool package?

| Differed
Well... I guess I'm one of the far too many differed this year. Does anyone know if ED applications are up this year at Columbia specifically? But what I really want to know is what I did wrong. I have an unweighted 3.94 GPA 2210 SAT good SAT 2's class president for 3 years, regional student advisory committee member, national honors society member, began leadership meetings withing the school to discuss issues from discrimination to class scheduling, and have competed as of of the two top performers in three seasons of running every year I've been in high school. I'm not one of those people who bought my way to good scores on the SAT with a tutor, I'm not the person who is natural gifted, I've worked for each and every grade I've gotten. What went wrong? I know deferral isn't rejection but it feels like it and with the amount of students who make it in out of the differed pool it might as well be rejection. What went wrong? I don't have my other apps. ready to go, in fact I haven't even started them. Essentially I'm looking for someone else who is in the same position as me so we can drown our sorrows in some ben and jerry's together (jk already did that). Anyone else feeling totally cheated?

im with you skier..i was deferred too...but hey its no big, image how hard it is to pick such a small class from all these applicants...the way i think of it is that theres got to be a reason for everything..so if u get in great, if not, screw them 'morning side heights gangsters'..ull be happy anywhere u end up
i have to start my apps too..

Is Post #1255 accurate? Seems that Columbia sent out 17% more early decision packets, but that may not be the same as the number of early decision apps received. The link fron Post #1255 doesn't say anything about an increase in early decision applications received by Columbia. Am I missing something?

ColdWind-- yes, the article does mentions APPLICATIONS, 3rd paragraph: Quote: |
This year's early decision application pool was the largest in Columbia's history, according to a statement from Jessica Marinaccio, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions. "Early Decision applications to Columbia College increased 16% over last year," she said. "The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science saw a 20% increase."
