| CHANCE A COLUMBIA STUDENT 4 COLUMBIa!
Hey everyone,
I am currently a senior at a prestigious prep school in New York City (top 5 in United States). I am additionally a student at Columbia university; taking two courses and an independent study with the head of the Sociology Department and the Oral History Department. I have also been working on a sociology project, and have published several articles through Columbia, related to my coursework. The independent study I'm doing is very prestigious, and I am the only non graduate student to be working on it. Anyway, I don't mean to drag this on further, but my stats are below:
Stats:
Ethnicity: Iranian/Mexican
School: Sends 40 % (~ 40 ) of grade to Ivy League / Stanford / M.I.T / Caltech : No APs, No Rank, No Valedictorian
SAT: 2200 - 750 CR, 750 W, 700 M
SAT 2: 700 Math 2, 700 History ( double =( )
G.P.A:

11th: 3.70
12th: 3.95

Thank you for your time and advice, please be candid! I truly appreciate it.
(By the way, I applied to Stanford early, and if i am accepted (God Willing), I will not apply elsewhere)

Hey guys thank you so much, the variance of responses as a function of the college forum i post in really amuses me; in the Stanford forum, for instance (where I am applying early), posts are unilaterally negative, here they are ubiquitously positive. Thanks, but please be candid and don't feel free to critique me!
nahshimshimhaeyo: Of course high schoolers can be published; my articles were published as data archives and analyses for further sociological use. They appeared in several journals, but merely as primary sources that related to the project i am working on.

Yeah, I've been published in Orthopedics Journals because of my science research, so I can't imagine that sociology would be that different.

You can totally be published as a high schooler.
OP: you've got great stats. And, if I may say so, I htink you've got a great shot at the Stan as well.
You've got a wide variety of experiences and you're clearly deeply engaged in all of them (that might actually make it hard to hone in on an essay topic:P). Get a recommendation from your professor!

To those concerned about my school's ap policy, allow me to clarify. Three years ago, my school eliminated all of the ap courses and replaced them with "at" courses (at meaning advanced topics/and or themes). The school's justification for this was that APs are antithetical to the progressive mission statement of the school; which stresses learning for self-advancement and not for higher test scores. If you would like to see more about my school (and previous school) you can look up the Collegiate School, and, The Ethical Culture Fieldston School (both schools I have attended).
Apparently, this unprecedented elimination of APs has paid off; and my school sends the highest percentage of students to Ivy League / Ivy League Calibre schools in the United States (only rivaled by Andover and Exeter).
Also, sorry Raiderade, mistyped, what i meant was : feel free to critique me.

.......just wondering but do you run your school? LOL there's a Varsity Chorus?
and I've never even heard of Farsi.
I think you're in. For a number of reasons (e.c/URM/probably essay, judging from the way you write)
I guess the only OKAY (as opposed to excellent) portion is your academics/gpa/sats. but I think that's ok just because you attend a prestigious prep school.

I think we have an epic rating. I can't give you a chance higher then the admission rate, but you have done everything to unsure the best chances to get into. Congrats, your not guaranteed for an ivy school, no one is, but you will get into a high rated school. I do not think you could have done anything else. Congrats on a great record.
