WiFi?

Hi -- Is there wifi on campus (in classrooms, in dorms, dining areas, libraries, etc.)? I'm considering getting a desktop and a netbook, but it will be really annoying to keep them synced unless there's plentiful wifi. Thanks!

When I was at DOC, they told us that they were currently working on installing wifi in the dorms. However, our guide said that plenty of students bring wireless routers and set them up in their rooms, where there are ethernet connections. This means that you can probably get a pretty good signal from a lot of places, including the lounges, if someone nearby has a router you can connect to.

I'm pretty sure that there is wifi in the libraries; I really don't see a reason why not. Not sure about classrooms/dining areas.

^^^ seconded.

Students told me there is wifi most anywhere on campus, and definitely in the academic buildings. However the dorms don't really have good signals because of the cinder block construction. They all seemed to really enjoy the fast ethernet connection provided, and most had their own wifi router if they felt the wireless urge calling.

I used the wifi in Lerner, and it was fast when connected, but spotty in the lounge I was in.

There is wireless everywhere on campus except in the dorms. We have ethernet cables which sometimes is kind of a pain but it does end up working out pretty well if you're like talking to friends on ichat, the connection is excellent. Some people do set up routers, but they have to be locked by a password. So I sometimes use one kids wireless if I'm on my computer in the hallway, but in my room I still use ethernet. Pretty much every classroom has wireless and everywhere I've needed it I've gotten it. There are also a ton of just random computers everywhere (like in the entrances to residence halls, in the gym, at the entrance of the library) if you just need to look something up really quickly

Every time this sort of question is posted, 5 people post meandering diatribes and then I post a link to the wifi coverage map:

C2K2- I don't think they've updated that map since I was a freshman. In 2003.

i'm quite sure that link has the most recent information. the map only shows outdoor coverage...coverage in buildings is listed on the left.
