It would probably burn more if it said "Barnard girls do it better" or something.

I really don't think it matters. I didn't send in one. I know people who sent in yearbook style pictures. Other people sent in photos that showed something additional about them that they hadn't already expressed in their app. Others were just completely random. Heck I even know someone who posted a link to a youtube video in that spot. Why not do whatever makes you a more likable, personal candidate? Either way its not going to break your app if the picture isn't anything special (or isn't there...)

You should've had a caption with the picture, saying something like, "If I don't get in, you won't be seeing much of him anymore." AND THEN a smiley face.

I'm not including a picture. I don't want to be judged on a picture.

The picture is a golden opportunity for you to tell them more about yourself. Don't waste it on a plain old school portrait. Send one of you doing something outside of school that will help them to understand who you are as an individual. Remember, they can fill the class many times over with kids who have top grades and scores. They are also looking for kids who will fit in and thrive as well as bring a wide range of talents and interests to the college to enrich the life there. Help them know you better.

If you can do something cool like paint well with your feet, send a picture of you doing it! If you play an instrument at a jazz club or coffee house, send a photo of that. If you organized a food drive, or train your dog in obedience ... you get the idea.
