The Possibly Official Common App Q&A Thread

So I started working on my Common App last night and ran into a handful of questions.

What do I list as Honors? Would this just be Honor Roll, AP Scholar, or National Honors Society inductee?

I have two internships and one job that are strictly involve my career path. Would it be wise to omit these from the body of my Common App and just elaborate on them on an attached resume?

Is it common to attach a resume? I mean, do colleges recommend it?

Why does the Common App still list Math 2 and Math 2C as separate subject tests? How should I list my Math II score? Also, is there any way to send different standardized tests to different schools? (i.e. schools have different requirements and I may want to only send certain scores to some schools and other scores to others)

I believe attaching a resume could be a strength as long as the document is concise and truly demonstrates that the Common App does not do your experience any justice.

Is "academic interests" synonymous with "intended major"? Does what I put under academic interests affect anything?

To idk11: Yes, those are things that you would put in the honors category.
To terp: Many people add resumes to give more depth to their activities list on the Common App. Colleges don't really care... just make it short and sweet (less than 2 pages)
To apple: I would list it as Math Level 2 because 2C is the older version of the test.
To aplomb: Yes they are synonymous. And no, you can change it at any time.
To Hipeople: Can you list the thread, because I could not find it.

Can any of you try to help me as well? Thanks!

do colleges know which other schools you applied to (b/c dont you list all the schools you are applying to?) would that be a disadvantage?

Thanks teamfrangela!

So for the interests if I just put "undecided" is that okay or is it encouraged to put interests down?

Math 2 and Math 2C are not the same. Math 2C is an older test and Math 2 is a newer (currently given) test. Math 2C is listed because some applicants may have taken that test back when it was being given. You should select the test that you took. Collegeboard will tell you which test you took when you login and check. (Chances are, you took the test within the last year and thus took Math 2, but you may have taken it a few years back.)

hi guys!

i wanted to know where to attach or how to send in an extra letter of recommendation? (on top of those required by the commoon app.)

i read on another thread that you can request online for an extra recommender through the common app.

or do you get the person to write the letter and send it by mail to be added to you file?

@ rte Yep! As long as you haven't submitted the app, you can edit

Do any of you know what to do with a creative writing portfolio? The Arts supplement only wants dance, theater, music, and visual art, but I've heard of many people submitting creative writing.
