Does Qualifying for the National Science Bowl count as "any academic distinctions or honors you have received since the ninth grade or international equivalent"?

My team won the regional to get to nationals. I got a certificate of participation even though we did not place in nationals (as it was our first time there).

So it counts as a regional distinction, but what about national distinction?

I'd say "national distinction" means you actually had to place at nationals. Unless there was a state level, it sounds like yours is of regional distinction.
